One of our customers moved to their new office. Their office did not have Ethernet wall-jacks as typical offices do. So they decided to go completely wireless. This worked great for employees because all of them were using their laptops. Not an ideal solution for VOIP Phones. We were using Polycom phones but unfortunately Polycom phones currently don’t support wireless networks.
After researching we decided to use ‘NETGEAR WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter‘. We bought a set of adapters from Amazon and configured it to connect to their current wireless network. Then we plugged these adapters to the Ethernet port of phones and rebooted them. Phones got their IP address from their DHCP server and worked like a charm.
To get better voice quality, we also used Netgear wireless router and configured QoS based on mac address of the phones.
